The location of Indira Gandhi Engineering College is in Sagar, Madhya Pradesh. It is a government aided autonomous engineering college established in the year 1981. Initially, the college was affiliated with Sagar university, but since the year 2000, it has been affiliated to Rajiv Gandhi Proudyogiki Vishwavidyalaya, Bhopal, MP. It is recognized by AICTE which stands for All India Council for Technical Education. Since November 1981 the College started with an intake of 40 students. In the year 1983, the intake of students capacity had increased from 40 to 80. Earlier it was five-year course so the allotment of the branch in the third year. Hence, in the year 1984-85 Civil Engineering branch and in the year 1985-86. Mechanical Engineering was started with the intake of 40 students each. Electrical Engineering branch in the year 1988-89, Electronics and Telecom. Branch in the year 1990-91 and in the year 2000 Information Technology branch was started
Indira Gandhi Engineering College offers B.Tech program as well as B.Tech Lateral course in five specializations namely- Civil engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics, and Communication Engineering and Information Technology.
The admission is taken through JEE (Joint Entrance Examination) main which is conducted by Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE).

Indira Gandhi Engineering College (IGEC) offers an annual intake of 270 seats for Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) degree program. The duration of the B.Tech course is four years for candidates with 10+2 certificate. And for the laterals(with diploma degree), the duration of this course is three years.

- The candidates must have passed 10+2 from the Madhya Pradesh Secondary Board or any equivalent exam from a recognized board.
- They must have secured a minimum aggregate of 45% of marks (SC/ST candidates the criteria is 40%).
- They must have studied Physics and Maths as compulsory subjects with Chemistry/ Biology/ Biotechnology/Computer Science as the optional subjects in their 10+2.
- The candidates must be residents of MP and must fulfill the domicile requirements of MP as specified.
- The candidates are required to clear the JEE MAIN exam, which is conducted by Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE).
