About Biomedical Engineering

Biomedical Engineering is the branch of engineering which deals with tissue engineering, molecular and systems level biology/physiology and mathematics. Students study the topics of biomedical electronics, quantitative and analytical skills which are necessary to interpret data which is acquired and for processing medical data which includes imaging and enhancement techniques. Other scopes of study include the study of biomechanics, cellular engineering, genetic engineering, orthopedic surgery, bio-instrumentation, medical imaging, biomaterials, advanced therapeutic techniques as well as knowledge of surgical devices and computer modeling of physiologic systems.

The Biomedical Engineering course can be studied B.E as well as a B.Tech degree – which is a four-year course. The M.Tech or M.E degree is a two-year course. The topics which are studied under this course are

  • Biofluid Mechanics
  • Biomaterials
  • Biomedical Image Processing
  • Biophotonics
  • Medical Informatics and Telemedicine
  • Principles of Diagnostic and Therapeutic Equipment
  • Biomedical Nanotechnology
  • Computational Neuroscience
  • Methods for Medical Diagnostics
  • Tissue Engineering

The duration of the course is 4 years in the undergraduate level and 2 years in the postgraduate level.

Admission Procedure

In order to secure admission in the undergraduate level, the candidate must have studied science with PCM in their 10+2 and should have a valid score in their JEE-Mains. Admission will be on the basis of marks scored in the JEE Mains examination. In order to apply for the postgraduate level candidate must have a valid GATE score. Admission will be on the basis of marks received in the GATE exam.

In order to be eligible for the biomedical course candidate should have studied science with PCM in their 10+2 and should have valid scores of any national entrance test.
