Agricultural Engineering: About Course, Exam Details, Jobs and Career Opportunities

What is Agricultural Engineering?

Agricultural Engineering is the branch of engineering which deals with problems concerning working and efficiency of machineries, problems with power supplies, use of structures and facilities, pollution and environmental problems as well as problems related to storage and processing of agricultural products, in order to help the farmers reduce their workload and get work done quickly and more efficiently. Agricultural engineering also overlaps with a few other branches of engineering such as – mechanical, civil, structural and electrical/electronics engineering.

Agricultural Engineering Course Details:

Candidates willing to study agricultural engineering must do so after completing their 10+2 and then getting a Bachelor in Technology, preferably in Agricultural Engineering or Biological Engineering. B.Tech graduates (4-year degree) can get an M.Tech in Agricultural Engineering, M.Tech in Farm Machinery and Power Engineering, M.Tech in Renewable Energy, M.Tech in Crop Production, M.Sc in Rural Technology and simultaneously continue to get a Ph.D. in Rural Technology. The Bachelor’s course will cover classroom and laboratory studies including field studies in science, mathematics, and engineering.

Agricultural Engineering Duration:

The Bachelor’s programme in technology will be for 4 years and each year will have two semesters which will equal to 8 semesters in 4 years. After procuring a Bachelor’s, a specialization in any particular stream related to Agricultural Engineering will take another two-years and 4 semesters.

Agricultural Engineering Admission Procedure:

A candidate willing to procure a Bachelor’s degree in Technology will have to study science in their 10+2 and then get a good score in any of the engineering competitive exams such as JEE-Mains or any state board engineering entrance exam. After securing a good rank, the candidate can try to seek admission in any of the various good engineering institutions in the country and get a degree in Bachelor in Technology.
