BITS (Birla Institute of Technology and Science) is one the rare engineering colleges in India which runs on ‘Merit only’ admission policy. The institute proudly secures the No. 1 rank in private Engineering colleges, better than many NITs and IITs and comparable to the top IITs. The admission is based only on BITSAT exam which is entirely different from JEE Mains. The admission to three campus- Pilani, K.K Birla Goa, and Hyderabad, is based on the BITSAT score. Cut-offs is declared for every branch different for 3 branches.
BITSAT 2019 Exam Pattern:
This test not only examines your hold over PCM but your English Proficiency, Mental Ability, Aptitude and current affairs. A 3 hour exam of 450 marks – 150 questions and negative marking of -1, makes it a game of speed and accuracy. PCM syllabus is same as that of JEE Mains. It is an online computer based test. Thus, solving questions online with full concentration is a major hurdle. The catch is that not only Non- Medical students but Medical students can take this exam by selecting Biology in place of Mathematics.
Candidates who have passed class 12th exams with 75% marks and 60% in each subject in PCM/PCB are eligible to apply. The exam is conducted in 2 slots each day with first session from 9 A.M-12 A.M while 2nd from 2 P.M-5 P.M.
The application form is released on www.bits-pilani.ac.in in December month and registration closes in March. Slot booking in March to April while Admit Card is issued in April. Exam is scheduled around 40 days after JEE Mains, in May and scores are displayed immediately on the computer screen after the completion of the test.
The exam is full of surprises as it gives you 12 bonus questions if you complete all 150 questions before 3 hours.
The students are advised to follow the syllabus strictly and attempt mock tests as much as they can. The formulas should be on the tips. Buy some standard BITSAT books and attempt each and every question religiously.
