The Indian Air Force conducts Air Force Common Admission Test every year to recruit Candidates to flying, Technical and Ground duty officer branches. Indian Air Force is one of the desirous armed forces through which educated and zealous young men and women can assist the nation by becoming an officer in its variegated branches –

  • Flying Branch
  • Ground Branch
  • Technical Branch

This examination is conducted twice a year – in the months of March and October by the abbreviation of AFCAT I and AFCAT II.

AFCAT is a written examination followed by the Air Force Selection Board Interview for exam qualified candidates.AFCAT grants graduate male and female an opportunity to join world’s 4th larges army. The eligibility criteria for different branches vary. Both men and women are eligible to apply for all the three branches. However, there is a short difference as women can only apply in Short Service Commission in all three branches whereas men can apply for both Permanent and Short Service Commission.

Candidates applying for AFCAT will strictly be selected on the basis of their overall performance in written examination and AFSB Interview followed by a medical examination.

AFCAT Selection Procedure:

There are various stages of the selection procedure.

1st will be an intelligence test. It is a kind of screening test after clearing which candidates will be able to go for further stages.

The second stage will include Psychological, Group Tests and Interview which will be organized over five subsequent days.

For Flying Branch: Candidates will have to undergo through a test conducted by the Computerised Pilot Selection System (CPSS). It will be conducted once in a lifetime.

AFCAT 2019 Application Form Details:

The AFCAT 2019 application form will be available in online mode from its official website i.e. Candidates can access the form from June 2019. Once the form will live at its official website, candidates will be provided with the direct link to the same. The application form needs to be filled in two parts. The procedure as to how can candidates proceed to apply online for AFCAT 2019.

Part 1

  • Access the official website and click the relevant link to AFCAT 2019 application form.
  • This link will redirect candidates to the page where they can complete the One Time registration process.
  • At the time of applying online, please keep all the necessary documents and details altogether.
  • Please ensure the correctness of details furnished by aspirants in the form. Upon submission of the form, they won’t be allowed to make any sort of changes.
  • Soon after clicking the submit button a registration number will be generated which will be required at the time of filling the second part of the application. Please make a note of the unique registration number.

Part 2

  • Upon completion of first part of the application form, candidates may proceed to apply for the second part.
  • In the second part of the application, candidates would be asked to choose the exam center, pay the application fee and upload necessary documents.
  • Candidates are required to upload a recently taken passport size photograph of size in between 10 KB to 50 KB.

Documents to be Uploaded

  • Scanned signatures (Size: 10KB-50KB; Format: JPEG/JPG).
  • Thumb impression (Size: 10KB-50KB; Format: JPEG/JPG).
  • Download a copy of the filled application form and keep it preserved for future reference.
  • If the details provided by Candidates in the form are found incorrect at any stage of selection, candidature would be canceled at the same time.

Examination Fee

Candidates will be required to pay Rs.250/- as application fee. Candidates, who are registering for Meteorology entry and NCC Special entry, are exempted from paying the examination fee.

AFCAT Rules and Regulations:

AFCAT Exam 2019 will be held in the midst of tight safety and security. Use of unfair means is strictly prohibited and is a criminal offense. If any candidate is caught cheating in the examination, then he or she will be expelled from the examination hall forthwith and exempted from taking this exam in future.

The candidates must follow the rules enlisted below –

  1. Candidates must carry their Admit card and original valid ID proof to the examination hall.
  2. Carrying of electronic devices to the Examination hall by the candidates are strictly prohibited.
  3. Candidates are not allowed to carry any printed or handwritten material inside the Examination hall.
  4. There should not be any kind of communication between the candidates inside the Examination hall.

AFCAT Eligibility Criteria:

The basic eligibility criteria that the candidate must fulfill to apply for the AFCAT 2019 areas under which is categorized according to variegated branches –

Flying Branch

Educational Qualification: 60% marks in Graduation with any discipline along with Phy & Math at class 10+2




60% marks in section A & B examination of Aeronautical Society of India or Associate Membership of Institute Engineers (India).

Age Criteria: Candidate must have been born in between 02 July 1995 to 01 July 1999 (Both Dates inclusive). Upper age limit will be relaxed up to 26 years if Candidates have valid and current Commercial Pilot License issued by DGCA (India).

Ground Duty Technical

Educational Qualification: Obtained 60% marks in Graduation in any discipline along with Phy & Math at class 10+2


Candidate must have complete 4 years graduation or integration post graduation in Engineering or Technology


60% marks in section A & B examination of Aeronautical Society of India or Associate Membership of Institute Engineers (India).

Age Criteria: In between 02 July 1993 to 01 July 1999 (both dates inclusive).

Ground Duty Non-Technical

Educational Qualification: Secured 60% marks in Graduation in any discipline and 60% marks in section A & B examination of Aeronautical Society of India or Associate Membership of Institute Engineers (India).

Age Criteria: In between 02 July 1993 to 01 July 1999 (both dates inclusive).

* Final Year Candidates

Final Year candidates can apply for the examination provided the applicant should not have any present backlog and must have secured minimum 60% marks up to the last semester/year for which results have been declared.

Also, the candidate must be able to present the proof of passing the degree by Nov 2019.

AFCAT 2019 Exam Pattern:

AFCAT I & II 2019 Examination involves two stages in selection—Written Examination and SSB Interview.

EKT Exam Pattern:

After the AFCAT written test, candidates aspiring for Ground Duty (Technical) have to go through another 45 minutes of examination.

This exam is called as Engineering Knowledge Test (EKT) is meant for testing applicant’s knowledge in the field of engineering and technology.

Staff Selection Board (SSB) Interviews:

On clearing the written examination, the candidates will receive a call letter for the next stage i.e., SSB (Staff Selection Board) Interviews.

The SSB interviews further involve the following 2 Stages:

  • Picture Perception and Discussion Test

Qualifying candidates will move to the Stage-II of the SSB Interview.

How to download AFCAT Admit Card?

The admit cards will be made available on the official website through online mode only.

AFCAT 2019 (1) hall tickets shall be available from the 2nd week of February 2019.

Similarly, admit cards for AFCAT 02 2019 shall be available from 1st week of August 2019.

The eligible candidates shall be issued with an e-Admit Card three weeks before the date of the examination. The e-Admit Card will be sent to the registered email IDs of the candidates and will be also available on the official website. All the candidates who successfully submitted their online application can download it from there itself by providing their registration or roll no. as asked therein.
